DJ Ronny Hammond always had a gift for spotting hot grooves striking a chord with audiences, since he himself as a kid drew inspiration from legendary radio shows such as the legendary “Soul Show”. In those mid-80s he developed an everlasting passion for black music in all its styles, growing up with the first hiphop sounds and slowly discovering the fine world of funk, jazz & disco. In the 90s Ronny played all sorts of funky breakbeats and house at memorable raves and jams. In addition to performing at clubs & festivals in just about every corner, he also presented the jazzy “Cool Sessions” show on ID&T Radio and compiled playlists for numerous top-end stores, restaurants & bars. He was the resident DJ at Supernatural events, lined up among artists such as The Budos Band and Poets of Rhythm, pre-showed for hiphop legend DJ Premier and becoming a finalist in the Dutch mix-championships in the early 90’s. As a DJ, Ronny Hammond also worked together with Jazz and Funk biggies like Benjamin Herman, Rob Van Der Wouw, Wouter Schueler, Young Sinatras, Euro Cinema, etc.. Sax, Trumpet, Drums, Percussions, Violins, Flute, You Name It, he’s done it..
‘Sweat is dripping from the walls. A naked lightbulb reveals a dancefloor whipped into a frenzy. If you look closely you can spot the two musical purveyors for the night. Sookie, clinging to his ear, preparing to slip into the next musical moment and H the Hype, shuffling through his record boxes, getting ready to deal you a hard-hitting Royal Flush. Again!’ The Jazz Junkies, Henk de Hoop – Kim Peters, have been playing their take on jazz fanatically for some umpteen years already. And boy, can you tell! What you get is great music, strung together with no small amount of imagination, benefitting from years & years spent rooting about in musky shops looking for those elusive vinyl treasures. So, in the words of the late, great Cannonball… “We Think That You Will Dig This!”
